Despite all the passion and emotions tied up in teams and favorite players, professional sports is ultimately a business.

This was proven when Golden State legend Klay Thompson, winner of four NBA titles, left the club in free agency and signed with the Dallas Mavericks.

The sharpshooter, Stephen Curry’s longtime backcourt mate, will long be remembered for clutch plays and bringing home championships.

Needless to say, Thompson’s parting from the team was an emotional event that brought an outpouring of support.

Bleacher Report posted Thompson’s goodbye to his legions of Warriors fans, in which he declared, “There are not enough words and images to convey how I really feel about y’all.”

Fans were quick to respond with emotional messages that conveyed the love and respect Warriors Nation has for the four-time champion.

Thompson was a rarity with Golden State as a player who had spent his entire 13-year career with the same city and the same fan base.

He was rewarded with five All-Star Game appearances and is one of the best long-range shooters to ever suit up in the NBA.

Thompson notably fought through an ACL injury and torn Achilles in consecutive seasons but still returned and contributed to the Warriors’ success.

Now he moves on to Dallas, where he hopes to team up with its dynamic duo of Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving and win a fifth NBA title.

The Mavericks got hot in the playoffs and reached the Finals before being cooled off by the eventual champion Boston Celtics.
